1990s

1990s men’s fashion made the ultimate case for casual clothing and bright colors. Double denim looks thrived during the nineties with cuffed jeans and denim jackets. Meanwhile, men embraced logo adorned styles. Tommy Hilfiger, GUESS, and Gap were among the top brands producing logo clothes. Sweaters, oversize t-shirts, and sweatshirts featured prominent logos.

Men also wore polo shirts with contrasting collars, soccer shorts, tracksuit tops, bomber jackets, graphic print t-shirts, and baseball jackets. During the early nineties, men wore short shorts. However, by the end of the decade, they embraced looser and baggier shorts.

Thanks to bands such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam, grunge style took off from 1991 to 1995. Flannel shirts were an essential item and often worn with acid wash jeans and patterned wool sweaters. Fingerless gloves were also standard. 1990s men’s style played host to past references as well. The mid-nineties paid a nod to sixties mod style with trim suits. The seventies were soon to follow with bold colors and patterns.

Nineties preppy style included khaki pants, boat shoes, crest blazers, and nautical striped shirts. However, hip-hop dominated the latter part of the nineties. The genre went mainstream, popularizing baseball jackets, tracksuits, and baggy jeans. Men also sported cargo pants, baseball caps, and oversized t-shirts.
